2008 Distinguished Alumni Breakfast

Honoring Fr. Ted Ley, S.M. ’58, Distinguished Alumnus of the Year

On January 31, Chaminade honored its newest Distinguished Alumnus, Fr. Ted Ley, S.M., ’58 at the annual Alumni Prayer Breakfast. Joined by family, friends and other Chaminade alumni, Fr. Ted was honored by President Jim Adams as well as by Councilman Dennis Zine, who presented him with a Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles.

Class of ’57-’58 ASB President, Fr. Ted professed his first vows as a Marianist in 1959 and professed his perpetual vows in 1965. He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Timothy Manning in 1971. His teaching and ministry took Fr. Ted to Marianist communities in San Francisco; Fribourg, Switzerland; St. Louis; and Honolulu, as well as several parishes in California.

Fr. Ted has centered his mission around children, lending his musical talents to provide music education gratis to less-advantaged children and developing a program that reduced gang membership as Youth and Family Life Minister at St. Anthony parish in Gardena.

In 2001, Fr. Ted returned to Chaminade as High School Chaplain until a sabbatical two years ago, however he still assists Campus Ministry at Chaminade when he can. He is currently Administrator of Saint Ann’s Church in the Elysian Valley near downtown LA.
